Kayon Jungle Resort Ubud Review: Is This Bali’s Most Romantic Honeymoon Hotel?

Hi, we’re Keir and Amy.

We chose Bali for our honeymoon in September 2025 because we wanted to go somewhere that felt completely different to home in Scotland — a place where we would experience authentic Indonesian culture, try incredible local food, and immerse ourselves in a totally different way of life.

Ubud quickly became a must-visit for its waterfalls, jungle scenery, and laid-back village atmosphere. When we came across Kayon Jungle Resort Ubud, it stood out immediately for all the right reasons. But was it really worth the hype?

Our Quick Verdict

  • Best for: Honeymoon couples
  • Not suitable for: Families (adults only)
  • Location: 25 minutes from Ubud centre (North Ubud)
  • Worth it: Absolutely – 100%

Location and Setting

Kayon Jungle Resort Ubud sits elevated above one of Ubud’s lush jungle valleys, offering uninterrupted views over dense tropical greenery. From the moment you arrive, it feels peaceful, private, and completely removed from the busier parts of Bali.

The resort is around a 25-minute drive from Ubud town centre. That makes it perfect for visiting the markets or exploring for a day, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with traffic noise or crowds. Part of the magic of Kayon is slowing down and actually enjoying the setting.

If you are planning a day out, Kayon offers organised excursions and day trips. There’s plenty nearby to explore, including spectacular waterfalls, the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, and the holy water temple, Pura Tirta Empul.

We managed to secure a complimentary airport transfer by emailing in advance, which was a great start to the trip. The hotel also offers reasonably priced shuttle services into Ubud, and the quality of transport was excellent.

Traffic in Ubud and the surrounding villages can be hectic, so unless you’re very confident navigating busy Southeast Asian roads, we’d recommend using the hotel’s drivers rather than renting your own vehicle.

Rooms and Suites

We stayed in the Valley Pool Room, a private villa set slightly down the path from the main hotel in its own walled-off space. It felt incredibly secluded and peaceful, with our infinity pool overlooking the Ubud jungle valley and very little noise from other guests.

When we arrived, our cases had already been delivered to the room. Opening the doors for the first time and seeing the space that would be ours for the next four days was a genuine “wow” moment.

The villa featured an enormous bed (honestly big enough for three), a separate dressing area with a full-sized wardrobe, double sinks, a freestanding bath, hairdryer, an iron, a safe, and plenty of storage space.

As it was our honeymoon, the staff added thoughtful little touches throughout the room which made it feel even more special.

The bathroom was finished to a very high standard, with a waterfall-style shower. Nothing felt cheap or rushed; the quality of the fittings matched the five-star feel of the resort.

Our infinity pool was honestly everything we’d hoped for and more. That first morning, we opened the sliding doors and were met with warm steam rising from the water and uninterrupted views over the jungle canopy. The birds were already singing, the valley was wrapped in soft morning light, and for a few quiet minutes it felt like we had Bali completely to ourselves.

Watch the short video of the morning view from our jungle infinity pool.

That pool alone elevated the entire stay from “luxury hotel” to “once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon experience.”

If you’re considering a pool villa for your honeymoon, we genuinely think it’s worth it for the privacy and atmosphere alone.

Add-Ons & Special Experiences

Kayon offers a range of optional add-ons, and unlike many five-star resorts, we found the pricing surprisingly reasonable.

We opted for the floating breakfast more often than not, partly because it looked incredible, but also because it meant we didn’t have to leave the privacy of our villa.

It was a brilliant experience and something we’d absolutely recommend. While floating breakfasts are available in the main pool area for non-pool rooms, we’d suggest upgrading to a private pool villa if it’s within budget. The privacy and convenience really is part of what makes it so special.

We also booked the “movie under the stars” experience. The staff set up a projector screen across the pool and prepared a comfortable lounging area where we could lie back and watch a film of our choice. It was one of those simple but unforgettable touches that made the stay feel tailored and romantic.

The Pool & Grounds

Just below reception, the main area opens up into a beautiful tiered pool space. There’s a pool bar serving drinks and light lunches, along with three levels of infinity pools, each offering slightly different views and varying levels of privacy. Whether you prefer shade or all-day sun, there are plenty of loungers to choose from.

We never had any trouble finding a sunbed during our four days, even when arriving later in the morning. The bar staff offer table service, which adds to that relaxed, catered-for feeling. With the resort leaning more boutique than large-scale luxury, it never felt crowded or chaotic. Guests and staff alike respected the peaceful atmosphere.

Beside the pool sits the main restaurant, overlooked by the striking Kumbakarna Statue perched over the valley. It’s an impressive setting, particularly in the evening when everything is softly lit.

Gym, Yoga & Spa

There’s also a well-equipped gym with cardio machines and weights, along with a pool table area just outside. I used the gym once (mainly to balance out the amount of food we’d been enjoying), and the equipment was modern and well maintained.

To the side of the hotel you’ll find the spa and Puspaka Chapel where they host yoga— one of the most serene parts of the property. The spa sits below the Puspaka Chapel and this is one of the areas where you'll be able to have a romantic dinner experience  we will touch on this later.

We booked the sunrise yoga session and were genuinely taken aback by the setting. Practising outdoors while the jungle slowly wakes up around you, with birds echoing through the valley, is something we won’t forget anytime soon. Even if you’re not particularly into yoga, it’s worth going for the atmosphere alone.

At the end of the session you will have the opportunity to hold a pose whilst the instructor takes your photo. One for the Gram!

It's worth noting that our session was full so make sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

In the spa, we both had a one-hour massage (included with our booking), and also added a facial. The prices were very reasonable for a five-star resort, and the traditional Balinese massage felt different from anything we’d experienced before. The treatment room featured two beds set in a tranquil Balinese style room suitably decorated with the jungle backdrop peering through the external doors, making it ideal for a couples massage in a calm, private setting.

Even if you don’t book a private pool villa, you still have full access to these facilities, and they’re more than enough to make the stay feel indulgent. Between the infinity pools, jungle views, yoga pavilion and spa treatments, Kayon really does deliver a complete honeymoon-style experience.

Food and Dining

We enjoyed three floating breakfasts during our stay, plus one in the main restaurant. The selection ranged from classic options to traditional Balinese dishes. I tried the Tahu Tek Telor (a tofu and egg dish with peanut sauce) on the first morning and liked it so much, I had it again. Amy opted for and thoroughly enjoyed the poached eggs.

The servings were generous: the main breakfast tray included bread, butter, marmalade, yoghurt, fruit, pastries, your choice of juice, and coffee or tea. Impressively, everything fit neatly on the floating breakfast tray!

Dinner Experiences at Kayon

Kayon offers several romantic dinner settings, each with a 6-course meal. Prices lean towards Western-style dining, but the quality justifies it. The three locations are:

  1. The Sky Lounge – located at the highest viewpoint in the hotel, overlooking the jungle valley.
  2. By the Kumbakarna Statue – private, but overlooked by the restaurant.
  3. By the Puspaka Chapel – the most secluded, but bookings are essential.

We dined at the Sky Lounge and highly recommend it over the statue location. Although it is a set menu, we could choose between pork ribs or a lamb combo for the main dish, with a vegetarian menu also available. Included within the 6 dishes was also a Thai Style Beef Salad which was genuinely lovely and a New York style cheesecake.

All six courses were flavorful and generously portioned, offering unique dishes we wouldn’t normally try.

Jetty Dining

The jetty restaurant is at the base of the hotel near the stream. A golf buggy takes you most of the way, but some steps are required. With only four dining pods, it provides a truly private experience overlooking the valley stream.

We chose the Indonesian menu and loved every dish. As is traditional in Balinese culture, flowers were laid out for us, a thoughtful touch that Kayon consistently provides.

Both the Sky Lounge and jetty experiences surpassed the main restaurant in terms of food quality, service, and privacy.

Main Restaurant – KePitu

The main dining area, KePitu Restaurant, should not be overlooked. Evening entertainment, such as Balinese fire shows, adds to the experience. Reception can provide a schedule so you can plan your visit.

We recommend trying at least one of the alternative dining experiences for a unique, romantic meal, but the main restaurant offers excellent value and a solid menu. Note that private dining spaces are limited, so booking in advance is highly recommended.

Service & Experience

If you asked us what truly set Kayon apart, it would be the service.

From the moment we were collected at the airport to the day we were dropped off at our next destination, we were treated like royalty. But not in an over-the-top staged way, in a genuinely warm and thoughtful way.

They decorated our room with romantic touches, prepared a beautiful floral bath, and surprised us with bubbly and cake to celebrate our honeymoon.

What stood out most was how personal it felt. They learned our names, greeted us every morning with genuine smiles, and made it clear that our stay wasn’t just another booking on their system. It felt special.

The balance was perfect — attentive without ever being intrusive. We never felt awkward about picking up the phone to request something (which we did a few times), because every interaction was met with warmth and enthusiasm.

They arranged our floating breakfasts, set up the movie under the stars experience, and handled every detail seamlessly.

The overall atmosphere of the resort reflects that same energy. It’s relaxed and authentically Balinese, not an uptight westernised five-star façade where you feel pressure to dress up for dinner. You can truly unwind here.

I genuinely mean it when I say nothing felt like too much trouble. Across our entire four-day stay, we couldn’t fault the service once.

If exceptional hospitality is important to you, especially for a honeymoon, you will absolutely find it here.

So is it Worth The Price?

Kayon sits firmly in the premium price range for Bali, but it still feels accessible. Unlike some five-star resorts, you’re not forced into eye-watering prices for every extra. Add-ons including food, drinks, and spa treatments all felt fairly priced for the level of quality on offer.

For us, it absolutely delivered value for money. Our only regret was not staying longer.

If you’re comparing luxury options in Ubud, Kayon sits at the higher end — but you can check current pricing for your travel dates here.

What makes the difference is that this doesn’t feel like “just another five-star hotel.” It feels like an occasion. Every detail from the setting to the service is designed to create something memorable.

Our Honest Verdict

For couples celebrating something special, Kayon offers exceptional value for the experience it provides.

We don’t say this lightly: it’s the best hotel experience we’ve had. We’ve stayed in our fair share of luxury resorts. It wasn’t just the facilities or the views; it was how the entire stay made us feel.
